[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Package: abiword
Version: 2.0.1+cvs.2003.11.07-2.2
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software (tasksel: desktop)
I can file the same kind of bug report to abiword-gnome but these are
both from the same source and the same maintainer.
The debian/control file of abiword source package has several issues.
1. Task: field
You can not assign "Task: desktop" for 2 conflicting packages
simultaneously. Here are key problems you created:
For abiword:
Conflicts: abiword-gtk, abiword-gnome
For abiword-gnome:
Conflicts: abiword
This means, any user who installs Debian and select "desktop" from
tasklist will receive broken dependency error. Very bad first impression of
Debian guaranteed.
Please set "Task: desktop" for only one of the conflicting packages.
2. Section: gnome
You have "Section: gnome" set for "abiword" binary package. If this
"abiword" package is really gnome version, why you uploaded
"abiword-gnome" package? This does not make sense to me. You either
change "Section:" for "abiword" package or stop building "abiword-gnome"
package.
3. Replaces: field
You have replace goes both way between abiword and abiword-gnome. This
may be OK depending on how you intended these to work but versioned
"Replaces:" may be something you may have intended. So this is not bug but
something I want you to put a thought on when fixing above issues.
Finally if you remove "abiword-gnome" package, 1 and 3 may be non issues.
If you fix this fundamental issues, you may close "#228260: Should not
Recommend abiword-gnome" too. I think that #228260 bug report somewhat
missing the factual understandings of issues involved. I think this bug
report describes the bugs behind his annoyance.

> 1. Task: field
This field is not in the package itself but in the override file.
Bugs in tasks should be filed against tasksel.
In any case, abiword has apparently been removed from the desktop task
so there is no longer a critical problem here.
> 2. Section: gnome
The abiword package is GTK+. If it doesn't go in the gnome section
then where do you think it should go?
> 3. Replaces: field
I agree that this is odd. I can't see the point of making
abiword and abiword-gnome Replace each other as well as
Conflict with each other. This may indeed be the cause of
#228260.

Fiar enough. Normal bug it is.

Hmmm... x11 since gnome requires more than gtk, I thought.

I'm here, but my GPG key has been removed since Debian machines
compromises and to make it worse I was extremely busy. Also your bug
report was utterly wrong or misleading.

I DON'T ASSIGN Task: desktop OR WHATEVER. That's tasksel's business
(see tasksel package). Don't you even check the fact?
2. and 3. are not even critical bugs.
Therefore,

You didn't report easy critical bug report, you filed critical report
*easily*.

Yep. I am checking my old bug reports.
New sarge tasksel solved this.
