Subject: libdbd-pg-perl: binding to type PG_BYTEA problems

Package: libdbd-pg-perl
Version: 1.31-2
Severity: normal

I have some code that attempts to poke and query binary data into and
out of a postgres database. At some point in the relatively recent past,
bind_param to a binary type (to handle binary data) has stopped working
in a slightly odd fashion. Minimal testcase is:

#!/usr/bin/perl -Tw

use strict;

use DBI;
use DBD::Pg;

my $dbh = DBI->connect('dbi:Pg:dbname=calendar');
die unless $dbh;
my $getbyuid = $dbh->prepare('SELECT appointment, timespec FROM
appointment NATURAL LEFT JOIN timespec WHERE ap_uid = ?');
$getbyuid->bind_param(1, undef, { pg_type => DBD::Pg::PG_BYTEA });

$getbyuid->execute(pack "C*", 1 .. 100);
EOF

Result is:

dichro@circe:~$ perl -Tw testcase.pl
Can't change TYPE of param $1 to 0 after initial bind at testcase.pl
line 13.
dichro@circe:~$

This used to work (albeit a few weeks ago when I last looked at the
code).

Subject: Help with libdbd-mysql-perl & libdbd-pg-perl
Date: Thu, 22 Jan 2004 19:50:44 +0100
Hello everyone,

I recently received bug reports against libdbd-mysql-perl and
libdbd-pg-perl. I'm very busy and I don't have much time to investigate
properly those bug reports and thus I'd like some help.

libdbd-mysql-perl
http://bugs.debian.org/227857

I can't reproduce this one since he gaves no code showing the failure
and the submitter didn't respond to my questions.

libdbd-pg-perl
http://bugs.debian.org/228836

I don't have the time to look what's failing precisely.

If you're interested in one of those packages, I'm willing to have
co-maintainers.

Cheers,

Hello Mikolaj,

   Can you please attach the SQL to create the appropriate tables, so we can
debug it, please?

   Thanks,

Attached, but I don't think you'll need it - it seems to fail before
executing any SQL.

Hi,

I ran your test script with 1.31 and 1.32 and the bug does appear to
still be present. Can you please confirm that this bug is still present
in 1.32 for you? Package available at http://people.debian.org/~ivan/
if it hasn't hit unstable yet. Thanks.

Hello,

I just ran you test-case script and it worked fine with
version 1.41 of libdbd-pg-perl and perl 5.8.4.

So I'm closing this bug.

Cheers,
