Package: mini-dinstall
Version: 0.6.12
Severity: wishlist
It takes mini-dinstall a long time to run on my laptop. This may be
because I have some huge packages in the repository. The --db flag of
apt-ftparchive can speed it up a lot:
joey@dragon:~/lib/debian>time apt-ftparchive packages unstable >|/dev/null
0.38user 0.21system 0:00.58elapsed 101%CPU (0avgtext+0avgdata 0maxresident)k
joey@dragon:~/lib/debian>time apt-ftparchive packages unstable --db my.db>|/dev/null
2.11user 0.59system 0:02.88elapsed 93%CPU (0avgtext+0avgdata 0maxresident)k
joey@dragon:~/lib/debian>time apt-ftparchive packages unstable --db my.db>|/dev/null
0.06user 0.00system 0:00.06elapsed 86%CPU (0avgtext+0avgdata 0maxresident)k
As you can see there is a little bit of overhead to prime the db, but once
it's set up, things are *much* faster. This works for sources generation too.

--db does not speed up sources generation, and is ignored for that.

Hi Joey,
I take your bug and comment as the suggestion to add --db to the calls
to apt-ftparchive and expect a speedup in generation of Packages, but
not Sources files.
Is this correct?
If that's the case, I guess it would be easy to (optionally, maybe),
call with db.
Cheers
T.
