Description: Finds visually similar or duplicate images
findimagedupes is a commandline utility which performs a rough
"visual diff" to two images. This allows you to compare two
images or a whole tree of images and determine if any are
similar or identical. The program can optionally export a
GQView compatible collection file, so you can deal with the
duplicates visually. On common image types, findimagedupes
seems to be around 98% accurate.

Did you ever get a response to this, Martin?
As this was in January I would suggest to retitle the bug report
otherwise.

http://kudla.org/raindog/perl/ says:
[2002/02/06 23:55] PixiePlus now supports similar image finding using an algorithm based on mine, and for those unable to run a current version of KDE, gqview will also find your similar images, albeit using a different algorithm whose results I haven't compared with my own. Both are FAR faster than findimagedupes and, I would say, both make it obsolete. If someone else would like to continue its development for web or other non-GUI purposes (this means you, Debian maintainers ;) ), by all means feel free, but consider my itch scratched.

Do you still intend to adopt findimagedupes? (This is just a ping, I'm
not interested in adopting it myself.)
Thanks,
Matej

Yes, I do.
I agreed, with Jonathan H N Chin, who provided a lot of patches to the
BTS to release a new version and become upstream maintainer. I'm waiting
a little bit until this happens. If this will not happen, say until end
of summer, I'll release what we have with the patches that are in BTS.
Thanks for the ping - I'm really happy that somebody cares about this
apparently orpahaned stuff.
Kind regards
Andreas.

Hi, Andreas ;)
The end of the summer is coming (well, if you are in Finland, people say that
the end of the summer comes the day after it starts, on Juny the 22nd).
I believe you are interested in this package. Are you going to prepare an
upload?

I think I will not wait any longer for a new upstream and upload the
stuff I prepared which applies the patches inside the BTS. Are you
asking just for cleaning up the BTS or because you are interested yourself?
Kind regards
Andreas.
