Isn't usbmgr obsoleted by hotplug?

Hi.
In [1]Bug#201385 in the Debian Bug Tracking System you stated your
interest to adopt usbmgr. How is this going?
I'm asking because usbmgr has a serious bug ([2]Bug#223219), which
should be fixed quickly. I would investigate it, but only
if I do no doubled work here.
To get this noted in the bug report: There is a new upstream version
1.0.0 available at [3]

I talked to Rudy Godoy two weeks ago. He is willing to maintain usbmgr
and I've agreed to sponsor him. He was working on fixing #175847 and he
said he'd let me know when it was fixed. I sent him a ping yesterday.

Hi
CCed to the ITA Bug to keep a trace of it there.
Just as a notice to you Rudy, i uploaded a new usbmgr package a minute
ago.
I dont want it as my own package, its just as a QA thing. You can still
take it.
But please use the source from the Archive (at least incorporate the
changes i made). It closes most of the bugs that are in the BTS.
The package works for me on the hosts i could test it, linda and
lintian are quiet, so i dont see a problem now. But im subscribed to
the PTS if there is an error somewhere :)
Please go ahead, take it, change the Maintainer to your address and let
weinholt upload a version from you, maybe with additional bugfixes. :)
The changelog for this upload is:
usbmgr (1.0.0-1) unstable; urgency=low
.
* Lets do a QA Release, changing Maintainer to QA Group.
Hopefully the guy that wrote the ITA still takes this package.
* debian/control:
- Update Standards-Version
- Update Build-Depends
* debian/conffiles - remove
* Remove obsolete Emacs Variables from changelog.
* debian/copyright:
- New Download Location
- Add short paragraph about GPL license
* debian/rules:
- clean up
- use DH_COMPAT=4
- drop dh_undocumented call.
* debian/README.Debian removed. (Closes: #171192).
* New upstream release
* Bug fix: "usbmgr: missing manpages". (Closes: #127791).
Thanks to Esteban Manchado Velázquez <zoso@debian.org> for the
manpages.
* Bug fix: "usbmgr: FTBFS: PAGE_SIZE undeclared", thanks to Frodo Looijaard
<frodol@dds.nl> for the Patch (Closes: #223219).
* Bug fix: "usbmgr: entry for vendor 0x03f0 product 0x0605", thanks to
Marco Bodrato (Closes: #191972).
* Bug fix: "usbmgr: New entry for EPSON Perfection 1260 scanner", thanks
to Damyan Ivanov \(at work\) (Closes: #204680).

Photosmart S20", thanks to Ajay Shah (Closes: #135209).
* "usbmgr: script path cannot be absolute" - this is documented and upstream.
(In README, 3.6 there is "put them in /etc/usbmgr).
* Bug fix: "usbmgr: init script cannot stop usbmgr daemon", thanks to
Kiss Gabor (Closes: #175848). (--pidfile /var/run/$NAME.pid is used and works
for me.)
* Bug fix: "usbmgr: incorrect module in usbmgr.conf", thanks to Hiroyuki
YAMAMORI (Closes: #222400).
* Bug fix: "usbmgr: description in startup/shutdown script", thanks to

Hi, I've asked the same question (or almost same kind) on -mentors.
Yes I'm willing to mantain it since I still use it on two machines (i386 and
ppc). Now, I believe that even it gets deprecated by hotplug, and it's no
so popular it could be put as an option for those who want it (as we have
many MTA's).
I'm going to merge Joerg changes with my previous work, I think I'll
have news for #175847 this weekend.
regards,
Rudy
