Subject: metacity: refocusses on wrong window when previously focussed window disappears
Date: Tue, 06 May 2003 13:16:57 -0600
Package: metacity
Version: 1:2.4.34-2
Severity: normal

When the focussed window disappears metacity will often select some
other random window for the new focus, rather than the one which the
mouse cursor is over. This can lead to e.g. gkrellm receiving a
pagedown, rather than xchat (even though the mouse is over xchat so it
should therefor have focus).

This is with mouse focus mode btw.

This is rather annoying with click to focus too. Not only will it select some
random window for focus, but the window title does not indicate which window is
focused correctly. In other words, one window will appear focused, but the
actual window to receive focus is different.

It seems to work fine here. Could you test with metacity 2.6.3 to see if
the bug is still here ?

Thanks,

I can't reproduce this in Nautilus 2.12.2. Tried numerous combinations
and even went so far as opening 6 windows and as I minimized each one,
it went back making the previous active window active again. Also,
changed the Window Manager settings to do focus with mouse over and
found correct behavior. I would call this a non-issue with the newer
versions. I can't test it here, but I would go so far as to say this
was working fine in 2.10 and possibly 2.8.

Daniel Givens

I'm closing this bug as there have been no activity, or no response to
followup questions, and new releases of the package in question which
likely has fixed this bug or made it obsolete.

Feel free to reopen the report if you think the bug still is valid.
