Problem is that the core Erlang interpreter built
under HPPA crashes when started.  Have not been able
to install necessary packages on Debian HPPA machine
to attept debugging.

Upstream has not been able to look at this (since it
is not a target of their main development thrust).

It sounds like it may be a while before erlang works on HPPA.

Perhaps it would be appropriate to 
* file an ftp.debian.org bug to remove any obsolete HPPA binaries (and those 
for depending packages as well, of course)
* and then downgrade this to "important", 
if you wish to have erlang release with "sarge"?
