Package: eterm
Version: 0.9.2-0pre2002042903
Severity: important

Non-ASCII chars are displayed as garbage (looks like it's trying to
render UTF-8 data as Latin-1). Explicitly setting a 10646-1 encoded
font on the command line makes no difference. If I chang LANG to
Latin-1 (LANG=en_US) the rendering is correct.

Eterm does not yet support UTF-8. Someone (vorlon@debian.org) was
supposed to contribute a UTF-8 patch, but hasn't yet.

This is a lack of feature, not a bug.

Hi Thanasis!

I just stumbled across Eterm's inability to support UTF-8 and found
this bug report (#184801). If Eterm is not supposed to support
Unicode, then the description should not announce that (which it does
ATM).

Do you know an unicode-capable alternative to Eterm which supports
transparent background and does not depend on a phletora of KDE or
GNOME libraries?

Thanks and have a nice day!

Martin

Odd. It's been been there for years, before I began maintaining the
package, and no one mentioned anything.

I know nothing about Unicode.
