Description : Tools for producing, distributing and playing media streams
Helix DNA Client:
The Helix DNA Client is the media playback engine used by the RealOne
Player. It contains standards-compliant H.263 and MP3 decoders,
RealAudio and RealVideo binaries, and sample user interfaces. The media
engine is capable of playing multiple streams simultaneously,
maintaining synchronization between streams, and handling RTSP, RTP, and
HTTP network playback.
Helix DNA Producer:
The Helix DNA Producer is a multi-format media-encoding engine for
creating streaming broadcasts, on-demand streaming content, and
downloadable audio video files. It supports RealAudio, RealVideo, and
Ogg Vorbis, and includes many input and output filters, variable bitrate
encoding support, option for two-pass encoding, audio gain control, and
Firewire support.
Helix DNA Server:
The Helix DNA Producer is the multi-format media-encoding engine for
creating streaming broadcasts, on-demand streaming content, and
downloadable audio video files. Helix DNA Producer, along with the Helix
DNA Server and Helix DNA Client, provide end-to-end technology for
multi-media creation, delivery, and playback over the Internet.

Hi Nicholas,
In case you were not aware of it, http://bugs.debian.org/181322 was
submitted to request that the Helix DNA Client 10 software be packaged
for the Debian GNU/Linux distribution. I hope that someone steps
forward to help package at least the player. This might help your own
efforts as well due to the wide range of platforms that Debian ports to.
If you have any additional info, please email it to the bug report so
that Debian folks can track the status.
I can't for some odd reason find the page that lists the different
platform builds and the people supporting each one, but your name was
listed there. I noticed some of them were listed as broken. That page
also listed areas that need help on the various platforms.
Regards,

Regarding the packaging of Real Networks helix stuff, looking at the
helixcommunity.org website I get the impression that the helix player only
supports Free Software codecs and in order to use Real audio/video you have to
use the propriatary "Real Player" version of the software. Do I understand
that right?
If that's the case then I don't see the point of yet another media player that
supports the free formats to Debian, we already have xine, vlc, maybe mplayer
someday, and many others. If there are advantages to the helix player or
people prefer it then maybe it's worth doing, otherwise why help a propriatary
software company develop their product and spread their
only-free-if-you-are-using-free-formats player? There are enough dfsg media
players in Debian to be spreading ourselves thin supporting another.
If any helix/realnetworks people are paying attention, now would be a good
time to explain why this software should be added to Debian.

Hello,
This is an automatic mail sent to close the RFP you have reported or
are involved with.
Your RFP wnpp bug is being closed because of the following reasons:
- It is, as of today, older than 600 days.
- It haven't had any activity recently.
- The amount of ITPs on the Debian BTS is huge and we need to
clean up a bit the place.
As this an automatic procedure, it could of course have something
wrong and probably it would be closing some bugs that are not
intended by owners and submitters (like you) to be closed, for
example if the RFP is still of your interest, or there has been
some kind of activity around it. In that case, please reopen the
bug, do it, DO IT NOW! (I don't want to be blamed because of
mass closing and not let people know that they can easily reopen
their bugs ;-).
To re-open it, you simply have to mail control@bugs.debian.org
with a body text like this:
reopen 123456
thanks bts
Replacing '123456' for the number of your RFP bug. The subject of the
mail is ignored. Or if you have any kind of problems when dealing with
the BTS, feel free to contact me and I'd be more than happy to help
you on this: <damog@debian.org>.
This is the first mass wnpp closing that will be done. The next close
will be done on inactive RFPs older than 450 days and finally, the
ones older than 365 days (an automatic script will close *inactive*
RFPs when they reach one year old).
A similar process is being applied to the ITP wnpp bugs in these
days.
Thanks for your cooperation,
