Package: zephyr-clients
Version: 2.1.20010518.SNAPSHOT-9
Severity: minor
I'm reinstalling my desktop machine; I figured it would be a good idea
to not hardcode the names of MIT's zephyr servers into
/etc/default/zephyr-clients. There's no way to specify this without
manually editing /etc/init.d/zhm, though, since that script tries to
validate the zhm_args parameter in the default file and won't run if
it's empty. Normally no parameters to zhm causes it to try to get
server names from Hesiod.
There should probably be some way to specify in the debconf
configuration that I want to use Hesiod to find zephyr servers, possibly
even checking to see if 'hesinfo zephyr sloc' works. Failing this, it's
probably better that Zephyr avoid depending on Hesiod, since most sites
don't have it and the configuration confuses people.

Yes. I am perhaps remiss in not documenting it, but if you really want to
use hesiod, at the moment you are assumed to be clever enough to edit
/etc/init.d/zhm, until I figure out how I want /etc/default/zhm to work in
the future.
General lack of enthusiasm in this is partially because I've been expecting
the sourceforge zephyr people to release something someday, which would
make this all obsolete.
If you think the hesiod library configuration question is confusing,
perhaps you should open a wishlist bug there.
