Subject: Dangerious Error in lg-all Package
Date: Thu, 8 Aug 2002 00:44:47 -0500
Package: lg-all
Version: 81

I had installed lg-all and lg-issue67 got downloaded in a corrupted state
with a bad checksum. I was having trouble getting my apt-proxy to
re-download the package, so I ended up deleting the cache by hand. While
doing this I also deleted the /usr/share/doc/lg/issue67 directory. Then I
ran the following command:

apt-get --purge remove lg-issue67

That producted this output:

Removing lg-issue67 ...
/usr/share/lg/scripts/install-issue: line 73: cd: /usr/share/doc/lg/issue67:
No such file or directory

Followed by what I believe is "rm -r" from the root directory. My bin
directory got deleted and the one directory I had that preceded it
alphabetically. After some hard disk swapping I was able to copy a bin
directory from a backup.

This is really, really, really bad behaviour. Please fix the scripts so all
"rm" commands use a full path.

Thank you,
Kyle Sherman

lg-base - Shared files for the Linux Gazette.
Closes: 155873
 lg-base (81-3) unstable; urgency=low
   * Added a test that a broken installation of an issue/lg-base does not
end up in a rm -rf / which we dont want. Really. (closes: #155873)
Can only happen if lg-base is corrupted at installtime and the path
for the lg-issue from that package is not available. Should normally not
happen. But you know murphy. :)
