Package: xfonts-base-transcoded
Version: 4.1.0-13
Severity: normal

Hi,

When I install a new xfonts package, the fonts aren't recognised by X
immediately because I don't have a font server. I have to call "xset fp
rehash" manually to make it work. "xset fp rehash" should be automatically
called (or at least tried) in the postinst script.

I'm not convinced that it is appropriate for package maintainer scripts
to run X clients.

Hi,

It's very unfriendly for users if fonts are not available in system after installing,

Please, call "xset fp rehash" in postinst of all fonts packages

They are available, just not to X servers or font servers that are
running at that instant.

That wouldn't solve the problem -- it will only work for people who have
the $DISPLAY variable set in the shell environment in which the dpkg
maintainer scripts are executing, which will usually not be the case
(and shouldn't be if the local adminstrator gives a hoot about
security).

In any case, it won't do a thing for users of other X server processes
running on the box, or people getting font services from font servers
running on this box.

For all of the above reasons, I will not be honoring this request.
