Package: boot-floppies
Version: 3.0.17
Severity: normal

Hi,

I did a successful network installation with the udma100-ext3
boot-floppies. I only had one minor problem. In the Alt-F2 virtual
console, I used ping to check if the network worked. Unfortunately,
Ctrl-c did not work to stop ping. I had to hit Ctrl-z and kill the
process.

Hmm, wouldn't this be a busybox bug? But I try, ona fully installed
system:

  # busybox ping arroz

and ctrl-c works fine. Wierd.

Umm, perhaps this is nonsense, but if busybox is running as PID 1, it won't
get the TERM signal.

You could also try 'exec busybox ping arroz'; maybe the shell you launch
busybox from plays a role.

I had done the same test and got the result. That's why I reported
this bug against boot-floppies instead of busybox.

Are you able to reproduce this bug ?

I imagine this has something to do with the controlling terminal ... a
long time ago, 'linux init=/bin/sh' disabled job control, and as such,
Ctrl+C. Here's a changelog entry from sysvinit(2.66-1, Oct. 29th, 1996):

  * Set /dev/console as controlling terminal for sysinit, bootwait,
wait, powerwait. This allows using ^C to interrupt some parts of eg the
boot process.

I now have a build where I can reliably reproduce the bug,
but I've not yet found the cause,

Subject: boot-floppies end of life

[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
I'm closing all bug reports filed on the boot-floppies since this
codebase has reached its end of life. boot-floppies is only in Debian
oldstable now (and temporarily in unstable because of bug #224469).

The new installer for sarge and beyond is of course, the
debian-installer. It solves a great many issues present in the
boot-floppies.

If you believe that your boot-floppies bug is still present in
debian-installer somehow, then please reopen the bug report and reassign
it there, or perhaps better, file a new bug report.
