Message #5 received at submit@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Package: orage
Severity: grave
Version: 4.16.0-2
The orage deletes events from its ICS file
(~/.local/share/orage/orage.ics) and from remote files without known
(for me) reason. I noticed that behavior yesterday (Oct 13. 2022)
because vdirsyncer starts to complain, that calendar file is empty.
Initially it happens with old version (own package), but while its
investigation i found, that here is new version in Debian, i upgraded,
but upgrading doesn't solve problem.
I restored orage.ics from backup and it shows 34 events (+ one BEGIN
for VCALENDAR):
grep BEGIN ~/.local/share/orage/orage.ics | wc -l
35
After orage start all events are gone (only one for VCALENDAR):
grep BEGIN ~/.local/share/orage/orage.ics | wc -l
1
I checked, if items are not archived or so, but events are really gone.
The problem starts between 12. and 13. Oct, as before that all
works as expected for years and my backup from 12. Oct contains full
ICS files.
Before i upgrade orage, i think, that here is something wrong with my
remote calendar file (synced with radicale by vdirsyncer) and i
noticed, that problem occurs, when i add 7th event into calendar. With
6 or less items, all seems to work as expected. After adding 7th item,
all events are removed.
With remote files the problem happens immediately after remote file is
reloaded, with main orage file it happens after orage start.
As this problem happens with previous version too, it can point to
some problem outside of orage, but i am not able to investigate it in
depth. I check what was upgraded at 12. and 13. Oct, i see libical3,
which seems as most related library, but to be sure, i check all
orage's dependencies:
grep "2022-10-1[23] \S\+ upgrade" /var/log/dpkg.log | grep -P 'libc6|libcairo2|libdbus-1-3|libdbus-glib-1-2|libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0|libglib2.0-0|libgtk-3-0|libical3|libnotify4|libpango-1.0-0|libpangocairo-1.0-0|libx11-6|libxfce4panel-2.0-4|libxfce4ui-2-0|libxfce4util7'
2022-10-12 17:54:38 upgrade libc6-dev:amd64 2.35-2 2.35-3
2022-10-12 17:54:39 upgrade libc6:amd64 2.35-2 2.35-3
2022-10-12 17:57:39 upgrade libical3:amd64 3.0.14-1+b1 3.0.15-2
These upgrades corresponds with that the problem starts to appear at
13. Oct, as i didn't reload apps after upgrade, but i shutdown it at
12. Oct and then power on at 13. Oct.
Initially i blame my ICS files, but as it happens with both, remote
and main orage file and with both (old and current) versions, it seems
to be not content related, but if needed to reproduce i can share one
of my remote ICS file, which has no personal content.
Hope my English is understandable ;-)

after i submit initial report, i tried to downgrade the libical3 to
previous version (from https://snapshot.debian.org/ ) and now all my
events are preserved, thus libical3 upgrade is related to it.
To be sure, i start/stop orage multiple times, and events are still
here ;-)
I am not able to decide if it is orage or libical3 problem (or both).

Hi Slavko,
for some reason your reports never reached us so I've just seen this bug and
your investigation. My feeling is that this is actually
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1021698 so it might be
interesting to check if it's fixed with 3.0.16-1.

If the bug comes from libical, I can confirm that it has been fixed in
the last release 3.0.16-1 which is now on testing.
Can you check with the last packages if the bug is still present?

Yes, with current libical3 (in testing) the problem is solved, can be
closed.
