Package: kover
Version: 1:4-6+b1
Severity: normal
--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
As in the message subject, kover takes more than one minute to show up.
At first it seems to not work at all, then when all the hope it's lost,
it pops its window. For an application that is just less than 1MB of
executable, it looks really too much.
Purged the package, reinstalled, purged the home configuration: always
the same.
I have tried to see if gdb can provide more information but nothing,
indeed the program doesn't crash or have a segfault, it's just slow to
start.

And as the name of the program says it's a KDE app. KDE4 to be precise.
I bet it just takes ages to load the KDE libs (and whatever they do on
initialization)

And other KDE4 apps? Do you run it under KDE4 where the stuff is
already there or under something else?
Honestly I don't believe this is a kover problem.

Hi Rene,
My desktop environment is usually KDE and now is KDE 4.3.1, AFAIK any
other KDE application is doing fine its job: no (long) latency between
launching it and seeing it appear on the screen. Really, I was surprised
by that just because it was the first time I have seen it behaving in
that way.
I understand that this can be a misconfiguration. I have tried with a
fresh user and it behaves weird. Inside LXDE, kover is slow to start up,
in a KDE it's just normal. If none else is able to reproduce this "bug",
it should be considered just my problem.
Sorry in this case for the report.
Bye
Valerio

Tried here in my normal GNOME env. Just took "a few seconds", something like
10 to 15?

I have had an idea and found that if my WiFi connection is up,
kover is slow to start. If the connection is down, on the opposite it is
fast. So it does not matter the user with whom I login, as previously
reported: kover worked on my fresh user just because I didn't set up the
wifi connection on that account. Do you have any clue about what kover
tries to do with internet connection during its start?
Cheers
Valerio
