Start with the bottom panel like this: 

        |A B C D E { app1, app2, ... }(switcher)(clock)|

...where "|" means a screen edge, capital letters are program launcher 
buttons, and "{ ... }" means the 'Window List' applet.

Drag the 'Window List' applet over to the far left: 

	|{ app1, app2, ... }A B C D E (switcher)(clock)|

...then drag 'Window List' back where it was: 

	|          A B C D E{a1,a2...}(switcher)(clock)|

The 'Window List' is now scrunched.  

To return the panel to how it was requires seperately dragging buttons A-E 
to the left, then resizing the WL.  Six extra mouse sweeps (or more, depending 
how many buttons exist) to undo one move.

It'd be better if the WL could be moved around the panel at a constant width.
